Hangman is a game I am currently working on by myself. I am still building on this game so this post is subject to multiple changes.
Plot: When a serial killer
threatens the town of Slawlog[working title], it is up to city
detective Slim Bookem to catch the Hangman Killer. But as Slim is
drawn deeper into the mystery, he finds that the quaint town is not
as innocent as it seems.
Characters
Slim Bookem: Slim is not like
most detectives. His colleagues find his actions eccentric and
sometimes almost illogical. But his record holds that he has solved
all the cases he has taken, or as he puts it, he has only taken
solvable cases. He holds a deep interest in justice and law and does
not stoop to lowbrow tactics to acquire information. The only flaw
his supervisors can say of him is of his habit to constantly talk
aloud about the current case, giving away critical information to
anyone in earshot of him.
Chief Gruff Lawson: Slawlog's "by-the-book" police chief. As mean and surly as he looks, Gruff always has the town's best interests at heart, if the gossip about him having said heart are true. He is not entirely kosher about Detective Bookem's involvement in the Hangman case and is always willing to follow the detective to make sure the city boy is as good as his superiors say.
Horace Quint: As the town's oldest resident, one would think Horace would know everything about the town. That is left to be said as he has never said anything to anyone. He quietly shifts through town in his olden wheelchair, making simple hand gestures to get the daily chores out of the way. He spends the rest of them at his porch, smoking or drinking as he watches the town live on.
Granny Cooke: Owner of the Cooke's Cuisine[working title]. She is known around the country as the maker of Slawlog's famous Slaw on a Log. Despite the unpleasant name, it is a delectable coleslaw snugged in a celery bed, her words exactly. She is as pleasant as an old lady can be, even with her desire to fatten up every man, woman, child, and dog in town.
Sylvia Lynin: A Southern starlet with a heart of pyrite. She seems to pop up in every case Slim is involved in, trying to vex him and flirt with him at the same time. Sylvia is the only person in the world that Slim cannot figure out in matters of mind and how she could possibly find him at every corner in the world.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Design: I am still working out on what kind of game I want this to be. I suppose it can be converted to either a stylized game like Phoenix Wright or simply an indie game with minor movement features. The story and puzzles are the main objective of the game so what format it is in is secondary.
Every day, Slim will receive a new clue on who is to be killed next. The detective must find clues to solve each riddle before the killer strikes again. With each solved case, Slim gets closer to identifying the serial killer. But with each failed case, Slim loses himself to depression as the town dwindles to nothing.
